Cleaning wood

Especially in exterior applications, wooden surfaces are exposed to weathering, resulting in undesired discoloration and decomposition of the surface.

It is often sufficient to clean the wood surface to restore the originally desired wood look.

Surface cleaning

It is undesirable to remove material from the wood during cleaning. The surface structure should be retained and only weather-related deposits, such as layers of moss, should be removed.

A suitable tool should be selected depending on the degree of soiling. Light soiling can often be removed with hand brushes or brooms with non-aggressive bristles to prevent possible material removal. Our products with:

  • Nylon trim
  • Elastane trim

Appropriate cleaning agents (soft soap or commercially available washing-up liquid) naturally support the process. The following applies: the softer and more flexible the trim, the better the brush can adapt to uneven surfaces or structures.

However, if there is a stubborn green coating on the wood, more aggressive brushes are required, which have a better cleaning performance. However, care should be taken not to damage the surface structure, for example by creating deep scratches or similar.

The following applies to particularly sensitive surfaces: hand-held tools generally provide better feedback and can be used in a more controlled manner during initial use.
